Wise Words
Use those talents you have. You will make it. You will give joy to the world. Take this tip from nature: The woods would be a very silent place if no birds sang except those who sang best.

Hurricane Celia

Perfectly circular, powerful Hurricane Celia spaned hundreds of miles over the Pacific Ocean in this image from June 24, 2010. Rough-textured clouds surround the storm’s distinct eye. Farther from the center of the storm, spiral arms appear thinner and smoother. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS, on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this true-color image of Hurricane Celia at 1:55 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on June 24, 2010. Just five minutes later, the U.S. National Hurricane Center classified Celia as a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 135 miles per hour. Image Credit: NASA

So, I’m studying chemistry — a lot!  My exam is in less than 48 hours now, and while I’m not exactly panicking, I’d feel much better about things if I hadn’t missed so much time.

2009-12-08I spent a good chunk of this morning sitting under a large Periodic Table, featuring its inventor — Dmitri Mendeleyev — in the corner.  It was kind of like having a loving great-uncle watching over me as I toiled away.

Logically, I know there’s nothing to worry about.  There really is no danger of me failing the course.  I crunched the numbers today, and I have something like 47 out of 50 possible marks going into the exam.  The exam itself is worth 50 percent of my final mark, and I figured out today that if I get about 82% on it, I’ll get the mark I want on my transcript.  I like A+ as a mark — it makes me happy. :)   (It will also help to undo some of the damage to my transcript from The Great Hibernation of 1995-1996.)

Most of the chemistry material is stuff I’m confident I’ve conquered.  Now I’m just wrestling with the stuff we did on organic chemistry.  It’s getting there — slowly but surely.  I’ve been eating, breathing and sleeping chemistry for days now, and plan to continue doing so until I hand in my exam.

It’s a toss-up over what I’ll dream about tonight — Uncle Dmitri or his demented cousin, Ethyl Methyl Ether.

One Response to “Hangin’ with Dmitri…”

Periodically, I can see you sitting at my table, sipping a glass of H20, while breathing in some Oxygen, in it’s purest form.

    LOL

Okay, it’s almost 11 p.m. and I ALMOST failed 1st year chemistry in High School – I thought I did pretty darn good, with this word play… all things considering! har har

Good luck, my friend!!! I KNOW you can do this!

May the teacher put a blue sticky star on your exam! *VBG*
